PERCEPTION IS AN INCREDIBLE THING

Much of what is perceived in the world is then coloured by a judgement, or belief and to us it can seem true. This can be both joyous and painful.

A good example is musical taste. I know my taste in music has completely changed from when I was younger, I was influenced by the music culture of the time, my friends and by my peers. Now I listen and love music that I would have never believed back then. Only this time no ideas influence my taste, it’s all about the way I resonate with a melody or song.

Whether you like or dislike, approve or disapprove of something or someone isn’t ultimately true as perceptions change. What we like today we may dislike tomorrow and vis versa. And what we see as wonderful maybe someone else’s idea of a nightmare. What I’m getting at is that personal perception is not a truth!!

Perceptions and beliefs about ourselves can become so ingrained by our day to day experience that we actually believe them to be true; and because they seem so real we can find ourselves suffering from the internal dialogue of mind, which evokes fear and emotion.

The wonderful thing is it’s not real it’s just a perception. The fact that perceptions change continuously is a wonderful thing. When you see it as only a perception, then everything becomes very loose and freeing.

I see perception no more than a kaleidoscope. We see a pattern of colourful beads (thoughts), then with a slight twist, the pattern reconfigures the beads and a totally new pattern (experience) appears.

Perception and life can be wonderful when you stop believing that what you are experiencing now is permanent, there are an infinite amount of forever changing patterns just waiting for you to turn and see.
